Welcome to Burnin' Daylight. The definition of burning daylight is that it equates to wasting time. Now, I figure that you are wondering, "What the hell is this Burnin Daylight. Simple put, I hope it will light a fire under your ass and make you think. It is a reminder that our days are limited and if you do not unglue your butt from your well broke in Lazyboy, you will never be able to check off those to-do dreams from your bucket list. 90% of you who read this are the type of people who do dream, that actually own a bucket list and want to take your life and notch it up a little.
For me, the pull of the open road is strong. I have had the occasion to stand at a cross road and flip a coin on which direction to take. I have experienced the opportunity to live in, travel through or work in most of North America. I have enjoyed earning paychecks from farms/ranches, sawmills, military, forestry, construction of roads, bridges and communication towers, law enforcement, corrections, plowing snow, social work, teacher, counselor and other not so mundane occupations. And to be honest with you, I am not ready to take my boots off just yet. There are many more places to see, many more jobs to experience and many more people to meet. And the one thing I have realized is that the journey is much more exciting than the destination and the journey begins with that first step....
So, you are now wondering, "What can I do to take life up a notch?" If you are reading this, you spend way to much time on the internet, and when you are not on the internet, you are getting up in the morning, going to work, paying bills, making someone else rich, and settling in to your well broke in Lazyboy to escape your reality with some TV. If you are lucky, you might get to drop by the local watering hole for a beer once in a blue moon or amble down to that big box department store to spend your hard earned money on crap you really do not need. Actually, your life can be described by the words: boring, mundane, routine and in a rut and if I am wrong, click out of here and good night. You do not need to be here.
Do you remember when you had dreams? Well, most of you still have them. Only you have put them in the back 40 because your boring, mundane, routine and in a rut life has taken over your reality, stifled your spirit and you have forgotten those dreams. Your first step is to find those dreams, dust them off and put them where they belong. On your list of the 5 most important things in your life. And I would make your dreams number 1 on your list.
As time continues, I will add more "ideas" as a way of jump starting your dead battery. A couple of on-the-spot suggestions is to experience living history, write that book you have always wanted to write or toss a coin to determine your journey. Do something out of the ordinary. Do something that is unexpected, offers excitement, offers a challenge, and gives meaning to your life. Are you ready?
Now, what in hell are you waiting for?
